RE : Tale
of Three Shipbuilding Nations.
I have
contributed a column in Korean under the captioned title at the monthly magazine
¡°Magazine N¡± for years. It has covered the market share, the development of
shipbuilding technologies and financing, in comparison among three leading
shipbuilding nations, such as Korea, China and Japan.
This month,
I touched a very delicate subject, the competitiveness in the industry, which no
one brings for open debate. This subject becomes very serious, definitely as a
matter of ¡°live or die¡± in Korean shipbuilding
industry.
Concerned
authorities started a talk on the subject from this week, and I am determined to
continue to argue, even against an open complaint from major yards, because it
is vital for the survival of the industry in the years to
come.
Best
regards,
Sung Hyuk
Hwang.
